Saskia Keeley is a photojournalist working exclusively for humanitarian organizations. Since 2016, she has partnered with Roots, a peace initiative led by a joint Palestinian and Israeli committee in the West Bank, to conduct photo workshops for Orthodox Jewish Israeli and Palestinian women. Although living side-by-side in the West Bank, for political reasons, these women would otherwise have no interaction. Saskia’s photo workshops provide an environment where women can interact with “the other” in an informal and safe setting, many for the very first time in their lives. The act of looking through the camera creates a human bridge to break down barriers and foster contact as women take portraits of each other in exploratory and intimate ways.
